My Take:

By Gordon Lambie

Maybe Tom Petty wouldn’t back down, but as it turns out Christian Dubé will. I can’t say that I had no reaction on Wednesday when, after weeks of repeatedly saying that October 15 was a firm deadline for the mandatory vaccination of healthcare workers, the health minister turned around and gave the province 30 more days. After some thought, though, I also can’t say that I think he was wrong to make that decision.

Setting aside the fact that I’m the last person in the world who has a right to criticize giving someone an extension, I just can’t believe that there is any way Dubé could suspend thousands of healthcare workers and not have it result in a lot of people dying.

Say what you will about the importance of sticking to your convictions, in this particular situation, “there ain’t no easy way out.”
