Lacmégantic Obstetrics department reopens

The Obstetrics department in Lacmégantic reopened full time on Friday after having been closed or run on reduced hours since October due to staffing shortages. During the closure, users were diverted either to the Fleurimont Hospital or to the hospital in Saint-georges de Beauce, depending on which was closer.

As of Sunday there were 3,300 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in the province of Quebec, 1,446 of whom had the virus as a primary diagnosis. There were also 282 people in Intensive care with the virus, 228 of whom were there directly because of Covid. Of the 419 people admitted to hospital in Sunday’s data, 289 were unvaccinated or less than two weeks after their first dose. This was also the case for 23 out of 27 new ICU admissions.

The Province recorded 185 new deaths related to Covid over the weekend, bringing the total number of deaths as a result of the pandemic in the province to 12,310.

In the update from the CIUSSS de l’estrie CHUS on Friday, there were 142 hospitalizations for Covid in the Townships. Just over half of those (77) were at the Hôtel-dieu in Sherbrooke, with 41 at the Fleurimont Hospital, 16 at the Granby Hospital, and eight at the BMP in Cowansville. The intensive care patients, all of whom were at one of the two Sherbrooke hospitals, numbered 26.

The region reported seven new deaths on Friday.
