My Take: By Gordon Lambie
Last Friday, François Legault’s twitter account shared an image encouraging people to get a COVID-19 booster. The written message was all about “being careful” but the visual caught my eye because the nurse giving Legault his shot is wearing a hijab.
Here is the man who has repeatedly championed a law that has demonstrably reinforced systemic racism in the province (while also denying that such a thing can exist), out taking photos with a Muslim nurse in the lead up to the next election. It’s not a coincidence, it’s virtue signalling.
Less than a week later, along comes a study repeating what we have already heard from a range of minority voices since the passage of the province’s secularism law in 2019; Religious minorities in Quebec feel, “less safe, less accepted and less hopeful,” in a post-bill 21 Quebec.
I don’t buy what he’s selling.
