Time to celebrate!

We are celebrating the hundreds of hard-working and spirited youth from over the years who have used and continue to use our services.

As students in our community near the end of their 2022 Fall school term (hear them cheering?), this week, the week of Givingtuesday, Phelps Helps is itself cheering the launch of our 10year anniversary. We have much to celebrate!

We are celebrating the hundreds of hard-working and spirited youth from over the years who have used and continue to use our services.

We are celebrating our hit programs which are offered for free in French and English to students: the Compass program, the Spark program taking place at our elementary schools, the Jardin des Frontières and Sunnyside elementary tutoring programs taking place at Phelps, and the high school tutoring program which also takes place at Phelps three nights a week. The ages range from 6-30 years.

We are celebrating the successful launch of a new season of initiatives: well-attended and exciting outings such as recent trips to La Ronde and the Bishop’s Observatory, Teen Gym occurring every Saturday at Sunnyside school, and the creation of a youth committee who will be planning fun and wholesome activities for their peers.

And we are celebrating the multitudes of people in our community who have helped to make Phelps Helps what it is: the funders, the board and members, the volunteers, and the staff here at Phelps Helps, all the people who worked very hard over the years to lay the foundation of our dynamic and evolving charity, Phelps Helps today.

At our AGM held on November 21, we looked at Phelps Helps today: graduation rates in Stanstead have increased by 20 per cent, a 0 per cent high school dropout rate among youth attending our programs, 31 youth returning to school, and 750 families supported by Phelps Helps over the years. These statistics say it all.

So yes, we have reason to celebrate! But even while we honour our past and continue our whole-hearted work in the present, we still need to plan for the future of Phelps Helps and the future of our youth and families in our community.

Earlier this week we participated in the Giving Tuesday movement which “inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.”

It is not too late to celebrate Giving Tuesday and our 10th anniversary with us through donations or volunteer work. You can find us on Facebook or on our website www.phelpshelps.ca.

Phelps Aide Phelps Helps was founded in 2012 and has grown organically from a single high school tutoring program to six unique programs, providing the Stanstead area with free educational and career support.
