Mental Health Estrie Gets Support From Owl’s Head Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star

Mental Health Estrie is a nonprofit community based organization in the Sherbrooke region, that is dedicated to provide information, support, education, and advocacy to English-speaking caregivers and individuals affected by mental illness in Estrie.

Recently provincial funds were distributed by the Order of the Eastern Star to local chapters. Owl’s Head Chapter, which meets in Mansonville, decided to donate its share to Mental Health Estrie. A cheque for $6,666.66 was given to Esther Barnett, President, and Tanya Gibson, Executive Director by Janet Patch of Owl’s Head Chapter. At the same time that she delivered the cheque, Janet delivered hats, gloves, scarves, and socks towards the HUGS program that donates needed items to the homeless in the region.

Looking over the annual report from Mental Health Estrie, it profiles a very giving organization which does a lot for the community. Last year it had 72 members. Sixty-one volunteers contributed over 920 hours to activities. Approximately 800 phone calls, visits, or emails were made to people in need. They held 38 client support group

meetings. There were eight family and friends support group meetings. Mental Health Estrie provided eight representatives to community groups in the area. It also gave fifteen public information sessions.
