Gail Mcewen honoured for decades of service to Emmanuel United

By Louise Smith

On Sunday, Jan. 29, Gail Mcewen was pleasantly surprised. She was bestowed with flowers and a book and card and several gift cards. It was but a small tribute to give to someone who has given, and who continues to

give, so much to the Emmanuel United Church community, in Cowansville, over decades. At the microphone, she recalled how music drew her into the church and she appreciates the music that is present in the church today. She went on to say that she could not have done her work if she had not had strong

support within the church community. Together, they have kept the church going.

The church service was followed by a potluck meal. Margaret Marshall made a special cake for the occasion. Debbie

Beattie was leading the service that day. Two other licensed lay leaders were there to help in the celebration – Norm Haslam, who came over after having led the service in East Farnham, and Francis Jones.

Gail is not someone who blows her own horn. She is very modest, but she has used her leadership skills in many committees and has been the Chair of the CAPC Board. She continues on the Board of Trustees and is back on the Board representing the Trustees. She is a true pillar in the church life and community.
