• There are more than 150 species of maple trees in the world, of which only 4 species provide the maple sap that can be made into syrup.

• Most maples are in the temperate zone of the Northern Hemisphere, and the majority are native to eastern Asia.

• The maple species is Canada’s official arboreal emblem as it is the symbol seen on our flag!

• 10 maple species are native to Canada: sugar, black, silver, bigleaf, red, mountain, striped, Douglas, vine, and Manitoba.
