Hollywood has arrived at Waterloo Elementary!

Submitted by Waterloo Elementary School

For the fourth year running the five-year-old Kindergarten (K5) students of Waterloo Elementary School have been busy honing their acting skills and performing in their very own movie. The tradition, started in 2018 by Miss Natalie Barr and her team, has resulted in three amazing movies so far (the 2021 edition was canceled due to the pandemic), and has raised some important funds to support the Preschool team.

The movie project started as a way to help students with their early literacy development, but has proven to do even more, encompassing all preschool developmental skills. Through work with teachers and parents students practice reading their lines, learn about expressing and understanding emotions, and gain appreciation for stories and storytelling.

Parents are an invaluable part of the process, running lines with their child and helping them practice reading with proper pauses and passionate intonation. Miss Natalie is aware that she and her students could never achieve the final product without the support from her K5 parents. “As a teacher I know first-hand the positive impact parents can have on their child’s experience at school and their learning. With a project such as the K5 movie, the support and encouragement of these student’s parents is paramount to be able to pull this all together and have such an incredible final product. It is a great way for parents to begin the educational journey with their children and we thank them very much for their support,” expressed Miss Barr.

This year’s movie, Adventures of Fairy Tales, features fifteen amazing actors who will portray Goldilocks, Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Hansel and Gretel and Cinderella as you’ve never seen them before!

The world exclusive premiere will be held on June 1, 2022 at Maison de la Culture, 441 rue de la Cour, Waterloo. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased by calling (450) 539-0162. All proceeds will go to raise funds for Preschool learning materials.
